Marseille consider Meïté as internal solution for defensive reinforcements

Olympique de Marseille are increasingly considering bringing Franco-Ivorian defender Bamo Meïté back into their squad as they look to strengthen their defensive line ahead of the new season.

With the possibility of several defensive departures this summer, the Ligue 1 side are assessing internal solutions as part of their squad planning.

Among the names under discussion, Meïté’s return from loan has emerged as a serious option within the club’s decision-making process.

The 22-year-old spent the current season on loan at FC Lorient, where he has been able to gain valuable first-team experience.

During his time there, Meïté delivered a series of consistent performances that helped him further develop his game and establish himself as a reliable defensive presence.

His progress at Lorient has not gone unnoticed, with his performances attracting attention from multiple clubs.

The loan spell is viewed as an important step in his development, allowing him to build confidence and maturity at senior level.

At Marseille, there is a growing belief that Meïté could now be ready to compete for a place in the squad.

The player himself is understood to be eager to return to the club, convinced that he may now have a better opportunity to establish himself than during his earlier spell in the squad.

However, Marseille may not have a straightforward path to securing his services within their own system.

While a return is being considered internally, there is also external interest in the defender from another major Ligue 1 club, which could complicate negotiations if the situation develops further.

This means Marseille must act carefully as they evaluate their defensive options.

The club are expected to weigh the benefits of reintegrating a familiar player who has gained experience elsewhere against the risk of losing him to a rival within the French top flight.

Meïté’s situation comes at a time when Marseille are expected to make several adjustments to their defensive structure, depending on outgoing transfers.

His versatility and improved performances during his loan spell have strengthened his profile as a potential squad option.
