Manchester United welcome back Mainoo, Martinez and Rashford for AC Milan test

Manchester United will face AC Milan in their final pre-season match before beginning their Premier League campaign, with Kobbie Mainoo, Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford back in Michael Carrick’s squad.

The match will take place at the Tarczynski Arena in Wroclaw, Poland, on Saturday, 15 August, with kick-off at 15:45 BST. Manchester United open their league campaign against Hull City in less than a week.

Carrick’s side were beaten by Leeds United on penalties on Wednesday after their previous pre-season fixture ended level. AC Milan, managed by former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim, come into the game after a 3-0 defeat by Chelsea.

Mainoo, Martinez and Rashford have all returned to training and are in contention to make their first pre-season appearances under Carrick. The Manchester United manager suggested the trio could be given some playing time, although he warned they were not yet fully ready for a full match.

“Marcus, Licha and Kobbie only came back a couple of days ago so they’re not quite ready but we can have them for the weekend,” Carrick said.

“We trained hard, the boys who came in, Marcus, Kobbie and Licha have trained really hard and we’ll have a recovery day tomorrow.

“We’ll all recover tomorrow, train Friday and prepare for the game on Saturday. Again, we’ll get the balance right of minutes.”

The match is available to watch on MUTV with a subscription.

Carrick’s provisional squad includes goalkeepers Lammens, Mee and Heath. The defenders are Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, Amass, Dorgu, Heaven, Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw, Leny Yoro and Martinez.

Manchester United’s midfield options are listed as Tielemans, Mainoo, J. Fletcher, T. Fletcher, Collyer, Santos and Bruno Fernandes. The attacking players named in the squad are Lacey, Bryan Mbeumo, Joshua Zirkzee, Amad, Rashford, Matheus Cunha and Gabriel.

The predicted Manchester United line-up is Lammens in goal, with Dalot, Yoro, Heaven and Shaw in defence. Tielemans and Santos are expected to form the midfield pairing, while Amad, Fernandes and Dorgu could play behind Mbeumo.

AC Milan’s predicted XI is Torriani; Terracciano, De Winter, Pavlovic, Chukwueze, Modric, Comotto, Estupinan, Loftus-Cheek, Ramos and Leao.

The fixture carries additional interest because of Amorim’s short and difficult spell at Manchester United. The Portuguese manager won only 24 of his 63 matches in charge of the club and suffered 21 defeats before leaving.

Although Saturday’s meeting is a friendly, Amorim may be motivated to make an impression against his former team. Manchester United, meanwhile, are using the game as their final opportunity to prepare for the opening match of the new season.
