Manchester United have enquired about Bayer Leverkusen forward Christian Kofane as they assess the possibility of a January move for the 20-year-old.
The club have contacted Kofane’s representatives to establish the conditions of a potential deal when the transfer window opens in a few months.
Kofane’s future has become a subject of increasing interest after contract discussions with Bayer Leverkusen stalled. His current agreement runs until 2029, but several clubs are monitoring the situation and could attempt to sign him.
Arsenal, Newcastle, Everton, Aston Villa and Bayern Munich have all been linked with the forward in recent months as his performances continue to attract attention from leading European sides.
Kofane said in August that, although he could see himself playing in the Premier League, he was not looking to rush into a move away from Bayer Leverkusen.
“I can certainly imagine it, yes. It’s one of the best leagues in the world,” he said.
“But I want to take it step by step. I’m young and still have big plans with Bayer Leverkusen.
“Bayer Leverkusen a great club that has given me a great opportunity and a lot of confidence. I feel very comfortable here.”
Kofane made 29 Bundesliga appearances last season, scoring five goals and providing four assists.
He has continued that form at the start of the current campaign, scoring twice in four Bundesliga matches. His early-season performances have added to the interest in his availability.
Bayer Leverkusen are reportedly seeking to improve his terms to more than £3m a year, with the aim of extending his contract until 2031.
However, with Manchester United and other clubs showing interest, Kofane could consider whether his future lies elsewhere.
