Manchester United could pursue regulatory and legal measures against anyone involved in facilitating JJ Gabriel’s departure, while Barcelona are reportedly prepared to let Alejandro Balde leave on loan in January.
United’s first-team players will begin returning from international duty ahead of their Premier League meeting with Tottenham, with six days remaining before Michael Carrick’s side resume domestic action.
Carrick will be seeking a stronger run of results after United collected only five points from their opening five league matches. Their sole Premier League victory came against Ipswich Town, who were beaten 5-2 at Old Trafford.
United also won their opening Champions League fixture against Sabah FK, but have suffered top-flight defeats by Hull City and Manchester City. Their Carabao Cup campaign ended with a loss to Brighton.
The club has faced difficulties away from the pitch too, including the situation surrounding highly rated academy player JJ Gabriel.
United weigh response to Gabriel situation
Gabriel caused concern at United last month when he formally applied to have his youth registration cancelled with immediate effect. The club rejected the request, but his current age means he cannot yet sign either a scholarship or professional contract.
The teenager turns 16 on Tuesday, October 6, when he may be able to pursue his preferred move. Because of his Irish and Cypriot heritage, Gabriel qualifies for an EU passport, potentially allowing him to sign for a club elsewhere in Europe through a legal loophole.
Although Barcelona have publicly denied wanting to sign him, Gabriel has been training in Catalonia. Real Madrid have also been linked with the player, and United would receive only a modest compensation fee if he left.
The Sun reports that United are considering regulatory action, and potentially legal proceedings, against any person or organisation that negotiates or helps arrange Gabriel’s departure.
Ali Barat, the founder of Epic Sports agency, is now managing Gabriel. He has obtained formal permission to represent minors on behalf of Gabriel’s family, while talks with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have reportedly been scheduled.
Barcelona reportedly open to Balde loan
United have also been linked with a possible move for Barcelona left-back Alejandro Balde.
The Spaniard was considered by United during the summer but chose to remain at Barcelona and compete for his place. However, TEAMtalk reports that the Catalan club are now willing to allow Balde to leave on loan in January.
Balde has fallen behind Xavi Espart and other players in the pecking order at the Nou Camp. His representatives are reportedly working to secure a departure, while United had previously assessed the defender before turning their attention to alternative targets.
United are said to believe the 22-year-old still has significant potential and could develop into an important defender if he returns to his best form. Balde was not selected for Spain’s World Cup-winning squad.
