Manchester United consider Diouf as left-back option

Manchester United are exploring a move for El Hadji Malick Diouf as part of their plans to strengthen the left-back position ahead of the new season.

The 21-year-old, currently with West Ham United, has attracted attention after a strong first Premier League campaign following his transfer from Slavia Prague.

Diouf is understood to have impressed with his development in England, combining improved defensive awareness with an attacking presence down the flank.

United are expected to prioritise midfield reinforcements during the summer transfer window, with plans to recruit at least two players in that area. However, the club also view left-back as a position requiring additional depth.

While Luke Shaw remains a key figure in the squad, concerns over his injury record have highlighted the need for reliable cover, particularly with the demands of a full campaign and potential European competition.

Diouf is seen as a player capable of providing both immediate support and long-term development, offering competition in the position while reducing the workload on Shaw.

Any potential move may depend on West Ham’s situation in the league. The London club are currently positioned just above the relegation zone, with their future in the Premier League still uncertain.

Relegation could force decisions over player sales, potentially opening the door for interested clubs.

For Manchester United, Diouf represents a relatively young option with Premier League experience, fitting a profile of a player who could grow into a more prominent role over time.

As the transfer window approaches, United are expected to continue assessing options across multiple positions, with defensive depth among the areas under consideration.
