Manchester City name starting XI for Champions League clash with RB Leipzig

Manchester City will look to respond to their 1-0 defeat by Brighton when they visit RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

City have taken six points from their first three League Phase matches under Enzo Maresca, but arrive in Germany after a damaging weekend result. They face a Leipzig side who have collected three points from their opening three fixtures and sit 29th in the 36-team League Phase table.

City are clear favourites for the meeting at the Red Bull Arena, while Leipzig have found life difficult under manager Martin Demichelis.

RB Leipzig will be without Assan Ouedraogo, who is recovering from a shoulder injury, and Marc Guiu, who has a muscle problem. Maxime Esteve is a doubt after suffering a knock.

Manchester City’s squad is in relatively good health, although Antoine Semenyo is unavailable.

The confirmed line-ups are:

RB Leipzig: Vandevoordt; Baku, Orban, Lukeba, Raum; Seiwald, El Aynaoui; Gruda, Nkunku, Nusa; Romulo.

Manchester City: Donnarumma; Lewis, Khusanov, Dias, Gvardiol; Anderson, Fernandez; Foden, Cherki, Ndiaye; Haaland.

The match will begin at 20:00 UK time at the Red Bull Arena.

Recent form

Manchester City’s last five results in all competitions are recorded as LDLWW, while RB Leipzig’s sequence is WWLWW.

City have won four of the six previous meetings between the clubs. One match ended in a draw and Leipzig have won one of the encounters.

Manchester City also have a strong record against German opposition in the Champions League, winning 21 of their 32 matches.

Leipzig, however, have lost their past five European fixtures against English clubs. They have also conceded 10 goals in heavy defeats by Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
