Mali’s Sinayoko moves second in Ligue 1 scoring charts after four-goal contribution

Mali international Lassine Sinayoko scored twice and set up two goals as Paris FC beat Rennes 4-3 in a dramatic French Ligue 1 encounter on Sunday.

The 26-year-old striker was involved in all four goals for Liam Rosenior’s side at the Stade Jean-Bouin on 18 October, helping the Parisians return to winning ways after their first league defeat of the season.

Sinayoko provided two assists for Maxime Lopez before scoring an acrobatic volley and converting a stoppage-time penalty to secure three points in a match that also saw Rennes forward Esteban Lepaul score a hat-trick.

The result lifted Paris FC to second place in the Ligue 1 standings with 14 points from seven matches, while Sinayoko continued his impressive start to the campaign.

The Malian opened his account for the afternoon in the 14th minute, winning possession in an advanced position before setting up Lopez, who finished to give the hosts an early advantage.

Rennes responded in the 29th minute when Lepaul converted a penalty after Pierre Lees-Melou committed a foul.

Sinayoko then helped Paris FC regain the lead shortly before half-time.

After receiving the ball from Luca Koleosho, the forward delivered a low cross into the penalty area, allowing Lopez to score from close range in the fourth minute of added time in the first half.

Rennes refused to give up and drew level again in the 74th minute, with Lepaul scoring his second penalty of the match.

Two minutes later, Sinayoko produced one of the game’s standout moments.

Reacting quickly after Rennes failed to clear the ball from their penalty area, the Malian striker connected with an acrobatic volley to put Paris FC ahead 3-2.

Lepaul completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the 88th minute, bringing Rennes back into the contest and setting up a tense finish.

However, Paris FC had the final say. Valentin Rongier was penalised for pulling Sinayoko’s shirt inside the penalty area after a VAR review, giving the hosts a late opportunity to claim victory.

Sinayoko took responsibility from the spot in added time, sending goalkeeper Brice Samba the wrong way to score his second goal of the match and complete a remarkable individual display.

The four-goal contribution takes the Malian international to six goals and three assists in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season. He is second in the league’s scoring standings, behind Lepaul, who has seven goals.

His form follows a productive 2025-26 campaign with Auxerre, where he scored 12 goals and provided four assists. He also scored twice against Lille on the final day of that season to help Auxerre secure their Ligue 1 status.

Those performances reportedly attracted interest from other clubs, including English Premier League side Crystal Palace.

Sinayoko has quickly established himself as an important attacking figure for Paris FC, having also played decisive roles in victories over Marseille, Nice and Strasbourg.

His ability to create opportunities for teammates as well as finish chances has given Rosenior another attacking option.

The victory over Rennes was also an important response to Paris FC’s  defeat by Lorient on 10 October, their first league loss of the season. The team remain unbeaten at home this campaign.

Paris FC will next travel to face Lens at the Bollaert-Delelis stadium on Saturday, 24 October, with Sinayoko aiming to maintain his scoring form as his club seeks to remain close to the top of the table.
