Mali and Rwanda will meet twice in November in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifying double-header that could determine which side leads Group K after the opening half of the group stage.
The two nations, who have both won their opening two matches, are level on six points and will face each other in the third and fourth rounds of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers during the November international break.
Mali’s football federation, Femafoot, has officially confirmed the dates and venues for the two encounters, with the Eagles set to host the opening match before travelling to Rwanda for the return fixture.
The first meeting will take place in Bamako on 13 November, before the teams travel to Kigali for the second match on 17 November.
With both countries enjoying unbeaten starts and maintaining perfect records, the two games represent an important opportunity to establish an advantage in the race for first place in Group K.
Mali will approach the fixtures hoping to continue their impressive opening performances. The Eagles collected maximum points from their first two qualifying matches, beginning with a 3-1 victory over Cape Verde before recording a narrow 1-0 win against Liberia.
Those results have given Mali six points and placed them firmly in contention for the group’s leading position.
However, they face a Rwanda side that has also made an excellent start to the qualifying campaign and currently occupies first place in the standings.
The Amavubi have collected six points from their opening two matches, following victories against Liberia and Cape Verde.
Rwanda began their campaign with a 3-1 win over Liberia before overcoming Cape Verde 2-1. Their two victories have kept them at the top of Group K ahead of the upcoming meetings with Mali.
The November fixtures will therefore bring together two teams that have demonstrated similar levels of consistency in the early stages of the competition.
For Mali, playing the first match on home soil in Bamako provides an opportunity to take advantage of familiar surroundings before facing the challenge of the return encounter in Kigali just four days later.
The second meeting could prove equally important, particularly if the opening game produces a closely contested result. Both sides will be aware that the outcome of the two matches could have a significant influence on the group standings.
Rwanda will travel to Mali determined to protect their position at the top of the table. Having secured victories in both of their opening fixtures, the Amavubi will be looking to maintain that momentum against one of their main competitors.
The Rwandan Football Federation has also communicated details of the opening fixture, encouraging supporters to stand behind the national team as they prepare for the trip to Bamako.
The federation’s announcement highlighted the importance of the encounter as Rwanda continue their campaign for a place at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
Both teams enter the double-header with identical records, having earned six points from two matches. Mali’s victories over Cape Verde and Liberia have demonstrated their ability to collect results, while Rwanda’s wins against the same opponents have placed them at the summit of the group.
The November meetings will provide a clearer indication of which side can establish itself as the leading contender in Group K.
With the first encounter scheduled for 13 November and the return match taking place on 17 November, the two nations face a demanding four-day period that could shape the direction of their qualification campaigns.
For the Eagles, the immediate objective will be to make home advantage count in Bamako before travelling to Kigali. Rwanda, meanwhile, will aim to defend their position at the top of the standings and maintain their perfect start.
With both countries level on points and yet to drop a point, the double-header promises to be a significant contest in the race for AFCON 2027 qualification.
