Lyon fight back to beat Nice despite finishing with 10 men

Lyon came from behind to defeat Nice 2-1 in their home match in the seventh round of the French championship, holding on for victory after being reduced to 10 players in the closing stages.

Nice took the lead in the 18th minute when Elye Wahi found the net to put the visitors ahead.

Lyon responded before half-time and levelled in the 32nd minute. Pavel Schulz completed the move from the hosts’ attack to make it 1-1.

The home side continued to press for a second goal after the interval and were rewarded when Tanner Tessmann scored to put Lyon in front.

That left Nice needing to take greater risks in attack as they looked for a way back into the match.

Lyon’s task became more difficult in the 70th minute when Kaito Nakamura was shown a red card. The hosts were forced to play the remainder of the game with 10 men but protected their lead to secure all three points.
