Luther Singh has earned a return to the Bafana Bafana setup after being named in Pitso Mosimane’s final 30-man squad, ending a prolonged absence from the South African national team.
The Cyprus-based forward was initially included in Mosimane’s 35-player preliminary squad following the coach’s return to the national team. He has now survived the final cut as Mosimane prepares for his first matches since being reappointed.
Singh’s recall comes after a productive 2025/26 campaign with AEL Limassol, where he scored nine goals and established himself as the club’s main attacking threat.
His importance to the Cypriot side has remained intact despite the arrival of Thapelo Maseko on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns.
Singh’s representative, Warren Swartz of ProAthlete Management, believes the call-up is recognition of the forward’s consistency and determination during his time away from the national team.
“We are extremely grateful and pleased to see Luther receive this national team call-up. We have been monitoring the situation closely for some time, and everyone around Luther is incredibly happy to see him earn his return to the national team,” Swartz told KickOff.
“He has continued to work hard, remain focused and believe in himself, and this call-up is a positive recognition of that commitment. As his representatives, we are proud of him and look forward to seeing him make the most of this opportunity,” he added.
Singh was considered one of South Africa’s promising young players when Hugo Broos took charge of Bafana Bafana in 2021.
However, his international involvement faded after roughly a year and he subsequently spent an extended period outside the national-team setup, despite continuing his club career with Copenhagen.
The 29-year-old had previously represented South Africa extensively at junior level and emerged through the national youth ranks before beginning his professional career with Swedish club GAIS.
He has since played abroad throughout his senior career and is yet to feature for a South African club.
His latest selection gives Singh another opportunity to revive his international career and compete for a place in Mosimane’s plans.
With nine goals for AEL Limassol during the 2025/26 campaign, the forward has built a strong case for his return, and his representatives believe his consistency during his international absence has ultimately been rewarded.
Singh will now look to translate his club form onto the international stage as he begins his latest chapter with Bafana Bafana.
