Luis Diaz says Harry Kane has ‘everything’ needed for 2026 Ballon d’Or

Luis Diaz has named Harry Kane as one of his leading contenders for the 2026 Ballon d’Or after an outstanding season with Bayern Munich.

The Colombia international scored 26 goals and provided 19 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions during an exceptional campaign for the German club. His performances are expected to place him among the nominees for football’s most prestigious individual award.

However, when Diaz was asked about Kane’s chances of winning the prize, he gave his strongest support to the Bayern Munich striker.

“He is the best in the world, without a doubt. He proved that throughout last season, and he has continued to show it for a long time,” Diaz told ESPN.

The 29-year-old was speaking after being asked specifically about Kane’s prospects of claiming the 2026 award. Diaz praised the England captain’s all-round contribution and said he was impressed by the range of qualities the forward brings to his team.

“The truth is that he is capable of doing everything, as I mentioned before. I admire him greatly because he does not make any mistakes,” Diaz said.

“He motivates his team-mates to play, he runs, he defends, he scores goals, and he can even score from long range.”

Diaz also highlighted Kane’s mentality, describing it as a major reason why he believes the striker should be considered among the favourites for the Ballon d’Or.

“His mentality is excellent. So, for me, he is one of the leading contenders to win the Ballon d’Or. I hope he wins it and that we can all celebrate for him,” Diaz added.

Kane’s case for the award was the focus of the discussion, despite Diaz’s own impressive campaign with Bayern Munich. The Colombian’s 26 goals and 19 assists came across 51 matches in all competitions, a record that is expected to strengthen his own position among the players being considered for the honour.

Diaz’s comments underline the high regard in which Kane is held by his Bayern Munich team-mate. Rather than limiting his praise to the striker’s finishing, Diaz pointed to Kane’s work rate, defensive effort, ability to create momentum for those around him and capacity to score from distance.

He also referred to Kane’s sustained level of performance, saying the England forward had demonstrated his quality over the previous season and over a much longer period.

The 2026 Ballon d’Or remains the subject of considerable interest, with Diaz expected to be among the names discussed after his productive season. Yet, when asked to assess Kane’s prospects, the Colombian made clear that he regards the Bayern Munich striker as a leading candidate and hopes he ultimately receives the award.
