Luis Diaz has described Harry Kane as “undoubtedly the best player in the world” and said he hopes the Bayern Munich striker wins the Ballon d’Or.
Speaking after the first round of the German Cup, Diaz was asked about Kane’s chances of receiving football’s most prestigious individual award. The Colombia international gave an emphatic response, praising Kane’s all-round ability, consistency and mentality.
“He is undoubtedly the best player in the world. He proved that last season and has been for a long time. To be honest, he does everything well, and as I said before, I admire him a lot because I think he has almost no weaknesses. He can involve his teammates in the game, he can run, defend, score goals, and his long-range shots are also very strong. His mentality is simply incredible. So for me, he is one of the main candidates to win the Ballon d’Or. I hope he wins it, and we will all be happy for him.”
Diaz’s comments underline his admiration for Kane’s contribution beyond scoring. He highlighted the England captain’s ability to bring team-mates into matches, his willingness to run and defend, and his strength from long range.
The forward also singled out Kane’s mentality as a major part of his case for the award. In Diaz’s view, the striker’s influence is not limited to his finishing, with his overall play making him a leading candidate for the Ballon d’Or.
Kane has been praised by Diaz for maintaining that level over a long period, as well as for what he achieved during the previous season. Diaz said Kane had already demonstrated why he should be regarded as the world’s best player and suggested that his wide range of qualities left him with “almost no weaknesses”.
