Liverpool could end their interest in Valencia winger David Otorbi if his release clause increases from £30m to £50m, according to Football Insider.
The potential change would take the 19-year-old Nigerian’s asking price from about €36m to approximately €60m. Although Liverpool are attracted by Otorbi’s potential, the Premier League club are understood to be prioritising signings who can strengthen the squad immediately during the January transfer window.
Otorbi is among the young players being considered by Liverpool ahead of the next transfer period. His contract currently contains a £30m release clause, but Valencia reportedly have the option to increase it to £50m under the terms of the agreement.
That possibility could significantly alter Liverpool’s assessment of the deal. The club remain interested in the winger’s ability and long-term prospects, but a substantial increase in the fee would make the transfer considerably less appealing.
Liverpool want immediate impact
Football Insider reports that Liverpool’s sporting priorities could be just as influential as the financial demands. The club want to use January to recruit players capable of making an immediate contribution to the first team.
Otorbi’s profile appears to fit more naturally with a long-term investment. At 19, he still has considerable room to develop, but Liverpool are thought to be focusing on players who can address the squad’s needs straight away.
Spending as much as £50m on a young winger whose immediate impact has yet to be established may therefore not match the club’s current plans. Liverpool’s interest does not necessarily mean they will make a formal move, with the outcome expected to depend on both the clause and their assessment of their sporting requirements.
If Valencia raise the release fee to £50m, Liverpool could decide to pursue alternative targets rather than commit such a significant sum to Otorbi. The January transfer window will determine whether the Reds choose to invest in the Nigerian’s potential or direct their resources towards more immediately effective reinforcements.
Valencia will soon play their 11th match of the Spanish league season against Elche. Betting company 1xbet lists Valencia at 2.65 to win, with a draw priced at 3.20 and an Elche victory at 2.35.
