Liverpool reportedly continuing their pursuit of Senegalese midfielder Lamine Camara as they consider strengthening their squad during the January transfer window, with the Monaco player remaining a target for the Premier League club.
Reports indicate that Liverpool have maintained their interest in the 22-year-old, having previously come close to losing the opportunity to sign him to Chelsea during last summer’s transfer window.
According to The Sun, Chelsea were close to securing Camara’s services, but the proposed transfer eventually collapsed because of unresolved personal details. Liverpool are now understood to be monitoring his progress closely and have made contact with representatives of the player.
The Anfield club are attracted by Camara’s physical qualities and technical ability, which have made him an appealing option as they consider their midfield recruitment plans.
However, completing a deal in January could prove difficult. Monaco are reluctant to lose the Senegal international and would reportedly demand a substantial transfer fee before considering his departure.
Camara’s current market valuation stands at €55m, according to Transfermarkt. He is reported to earn an annual salary of €1,380,000 in France and remains under contract with Monaco until 30 June 2029.
His existing agreement gives the French club a strong negotiating position, particularly with several years remaining before its expiry.
The midfielder has featured in 12 matches across all competitions this season, scoring twice and providing one assist. His performances have continued to attract attention, with Liverpool keeping track of his development as they assess the possibility of bringing him to Anfield.
Although the Premier League side’s interest is described as genuine, an agreement for a mid-season transfer is not guaranteed. Monaco’s financial demands remain a potential obstacle, meaning Liverpool could face a difficult negotiation if they decide to formalise their interest.
The reported pursuit also brings back memories of Chelsea’s attempt to sign the player during the previous transfer window. The London club had appeared close to completing the move before the disagreement over personal details prevented an agreement.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are pursuing a separate midfield target in Bournemouth’s Alex Scott as they look to strengthen their options following Enzo Fernández’s departure.
The 23-year-old English attacking midfielder is reportedly a priority for Chelsea, who have already demonstrated their willingness to spend significantly to secure his services.
Chelsea submitted an offer worth £64m for Scott last summer, but Bournemouth rejected the proposal. The south coast club are now understood to be demanding at least £100m before agreeing to sell the midfielder.
Despite the financial challenge, Chelsea’s interest has continued, with Scott reportedly open to the possibility of moving to Stamford Bridge.
The midfielder has also held discussions with Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso and several members of the club’s playing squad, according to the reports.
However, Chelsea are not the only Premier League club interested in securing his signature. Liverpool and Arsenal are also monitoring the situation, creating competition for the Bournemouth player’s services.
Chelsea are nevertheless reported to be in an advanced position in the pursuit, although Bournemouth’s valuation could prove decisive in determining whether a transfer becomes possible.
The two transfer situations highlight the activity expected around midfield recruitment ahead of January.
Liverpool are keeping their attention on Camara, whose performances at Monaco have attracted interest despite the difficulty of negotiating with his current club. Chelsea, meanwhile, are pursuing Scott as a potential addition to their midfield following Fernández’s departure.
With Monaco unwilling to release Camara cheaply and Bournemouth demanding a significant fee for Scott, both potential transfers could require substantial financial commitments.
For Liverpool, the immediate challenge will be determining whether they can reach an agreement with Monaco for the Senegal international. Chelsea must similarly consider whether they are prepared to meet Bournemouth’s valuation of Scott as they continue their efforts to strengthen the squad.
