The Barcelona player was also among the contenders, but finished third in the journalists’ voting, according to a report by The Touchline citing Spanish newspaper Sport.
Yamal’s belief was reportedly influenced by seeing a large Bayern Munich delegation in London. The presence of the club’s representatives led him to think Kane was likely to be announced as the winner.
Ballon d’Or voting results have remained confidential until the final moments in recent years. Kane himself only discovered that he had won when Ronaldo announced the result on stage.
