A shirt worn by Lamine Yamal during one of FC Barcelona’s biggest victories of the season has become the standout item in a charity auction organised by the club’s foundation, fetching a remarkable €75,527 after intense bidding competition.
The auction featured shirts worn by Barcelona players during their 7-2 victory over Newcastle United in the round of 16 of the 2025-26 UEFA Champions League. The match, played on 18 March at Spotify Camp Nou, saw the Catalan side progress comfortably to the quarter-finals before their European campaign later ended in a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Atlético Madrid.
According to reports from the Catalan newspaper Sport, Yamal’s shirt attracted the fiercest competition among collectors and supporters, receiving 69 bids before the auction closed on 21 May. From the beginning of the sale, the teenager’s jersey had emerged as the most sought-after item among all the match-worn shirts on offer.
The final amount paid for the shirt placed it well above the values achieved by jerseys worn by some of Barcelona’s other leading players. A shirt belonging to Pedri sold for €12,273, while Brazilian winger Raphinha saw his shirt reach €11,270. The jersey of veteran striker Robert Lewandowski sold for €11,113.
Lewandowski, whose current contract expires next June, is expected to leave Barcelona at the end of the agreement, making his shirt another notable item in the collection.
The charity auction was conducted through the MatchWornShirt platform and included specially designed shirts worn by the squad of German coach Hansi Flick. The shirts also featured a unique font created by Anna Vives, a young woman with Down syndrome, as part of an initiative aimed at supporting people living with the condition.
Barcelona’s foundation organised the campaign to combine football memorabilia with social awareness initiatives, helping generate funds through one of the club’s most memorable European nights of the season.
Yamal’s growing popularity has continued to attract global attention both on and off the pitch. The young winger is widely expected to play a leading role for Spain national football team at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to take place between 11 June and 19 July next year.
Spain’s squad for the tournament is due to be announced on Monday, with Yamal tipped to be one of the central figures in the country’s attempt to reclaim the world title for the first time since their triumph at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The auction result has further underlined the commercial and cultural influence the young Barcelona star now holds, with his shirt commanding more than six times the value of several of his senior teammates’ items.
