Senegal international Krepin Diatta is at the centre of a cross-border transfer battle after leaving AS Monaco on a free, with leading clubs in Germany and England vying to secure his signature.
The 27-year-old winger, who spent five seasons in Ligue 1 with Monaco, is being lined up by Bayer Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Crystal Palace, all of whom see him as a strategic addition ahead of the new season.
Diatta, a key member of Senegal’s national team and widely regarded for his pace and versatility, is currently without a club following the end of his contract in the principality. His status as a free agent has intensified interest across Europe’s top leagues.
Bundesliga clubs move first for Diatta
In Germany, Bayer Leverkusen are understood to be particularly keen on Diatta’s ability to operate in multiple attacking roles.
The Bundesliga champions, who will play in the Champions League next season, view him as a high-quality option on the right flank, able to provide depth and competition in a demanding campaign that will include domestic and European commitments.
Their interest is matched by fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, who have already opened talks with the player’s representatives. The German club is believed to be pitching significant game time as its main argument, hoping that the prospect of a central role in the team will persuade Diatta to choose them over higher-profile suitors.
Negotiations with both German clubs are said to be under way, with discussions focused on the sporting project as well as the financial package.
Crystal Palace join race from Premier League
In the Premier League, Crystal Palace have also entered the race for the Senegalese forward.
The London club are convinced that Diatta’s profile – a fast, hard-working wide player comfortable in transition and able to press from the front – fits their current style of play. Palace are described as willing to meet his salary expectations in order to bring him to Selhurst Park.
The club believes his experience in a top European league and at international level could strengthen their attacking options and offer tactical flexibility on the wings.
With interest now formalised from England and Germany, Diatta faces a choice between a potential Champions League campaign with Leverkusen, a more prominent role at Hoffenheim, or a move to the high-intensity environment of the Premier League with Crystal Palace.
Financial demands and contract length
Diatta’s camp is reported to be seeking a net annual salary of €2.5m from any prospective club.
Because there is no transfer fee involved, clubs considering a move see this wage level, combined with an appropriate signing bonus, as financially manageable within their budgets.
Talks over personal terms are ongoing, with negotiations centred on salary, bonuses and the length of the deal. The new contract is expected to run for three or four years, giving Diatta medium-term stability at his next club.
As discussions continue, the former Monaco winger – nicknamed “Le Lion de la Teranga” in reference to Senegal’s national team – has emerged as one of the most sought-after free agents on the European market this summer.
