Krepin Diatta has agreed to join Watford after leaving AS Monaco at the beginning of the summer, Africafoot has confirmed exclusively.
The Senegal international has signed a contract with the English club until the end of the current season. The agreement includes an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months next summer, Watford announced.
Diatta, 27, had remained without a club when the summer transfer window closed. As a free agent, he was still able to negotiate with teams after the deadline and eventually reached an agreement with Watford following several weeks of discussions.
The winger was also interviewed by the club’s official media following his arrival and gave his first impressions of the move.
Diatta attracted interest from several clubs
Watford were not the only club to show an interest in the former AS Monaco player during his period without a contract.
According to information previously revealed exclusively by Africafoot, clubs from Serie A and Ligue 1 had explored the possibility of signing him. Premier League sides Everton and Crystal Palace were also reported to be interested, while Turkish clubs Konyaspor, Trabzonspor and Besiktas were among the other options under consideration.
Watford, who play in the second tier of English football, ultimately secured his signature. The move brings to an end Diatta’s five-year spell in France.
Diatta joined AS Monaco and made 143 official appearances for the Principality club. During that time, he scored eight goals and provided nine assists.
His market value is listed at €6m. While in France, he earned an annual salary of €3,000,000, equivalent to 1,950,000,000 FCFA.
The Senegal international now begins a new chapter at Vicarage Road, with Watford’s immediate focus on their Championship campaign. Their next fixture is a ninth-round league match against Burnley.
