Carlo Ancelotti is the highest-paid national team manager in the world, with Germany coach Jurgen Klopp second on an annual salary of €7m, according to Goal.
Ancelotti, 67, is estimated to earn about €10m a year with Brazil. The Italian ended his contract with Real Madrid in May 2024 before taking charge of the Brazilian national team.
His salary at Real Madrid had reached as much as €11m annually, but he remains ahead of Klopp in the current rankings of international coaches.
Klopp, 59, succeeded Julian Nagelsmann as Germany manager and now leads the historical earnings list for coaches of the German national team. Nagelsmann had been earning approximately €6m a year, under a contract that was originally due to run until 2028. After his termination, he received about €7m in severance pay.
The former Liverpool manager’s salary in Germany is considerably lower than his earnings in previous roles. As Global Head of Soccer at Red Bull, Klopp was paid approximately €12m a year, while his final base salary at Liverpool reached €18m.
Mauricio Pochettino is third in the worldwide list, earning €6.8m annually as United States national team coach. England manager Thomas Tuchel follows on €6m a year.
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente received a pay rise after guiding his side to victory at Euro 2024. His annual salary increased from €2m to €5m.
Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni, who led the country to World Cup success, earns €2.3m a year. Austria coach Ralf Rangnick is paid €2m annually.
Klopp is not the only prominent manager to take a pay cut after moving into international football.
Zinedine Zidane earns €3.6m a year, compared with the €12m he received while managing Real Madrid. Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach, is paid €4m annually after previously earning €12m at Al-Hilal.
The salaries of the coaches whose teams face Germany in the Nations League are significantly lower than Klopp’s. Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman earns €3m a year, while Greece coach Ivan Jovanovic receives €900,000.
Serbia manager Veljko Paunovic has an annual salary of €650,000.
