Germany manager Jurgen Klopp says he is not interested in the possibility of Liverpool being awarded two additional Premier League titles if Manchester City are punished over allegations against the club.
Klopp was asked about the situation at his news conference on Wednesday, ahead of Germany’s Nations League match against Serbia on Thursday. He laughed before saying: “Of course I’ve heard about it, but I haven’t thought about it much.”
The former Liverpool manager said he would wait for the outcome, while stressing his respect for Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.
“I can only wait and see what happens,” Klopp said. “I have huge respect for Pep Guardiola and the way Manchester City play football. They have played fantastic football and were a top-class opponent for us.”
Klopp added that any potential punishment was nothing to do with him and that he was not preparing to receive further honours from his time at Liverpool.
“If any sanctions are imposed, it has nothing to do with me, and I’ll wait and see,” he said. “I’m far from preparing for a title or anything like that. I’m absolutely fine with what we achieved at Liverpool. We fought hard on the pitch.
“I can’t say more about it because I don’t know the details, and I’m not interested in them.”
The comments came as Klopp continues his first international managerial project with Germany. The team remains in the early stages of a rebuilding process, while the former Liverpool boss is still waiting for his first victory as national-team manager.
Klopp said the long-term aim was to develop a side capable of competing against any opposition.
“We will build a team that can cause problems for all teams,” he said. “We are only at the beginning of this process. We are all interested in bringing German football back to where we all want it to be.”
