Kingsley Coman returns as Al Nassr beat Al Anwar before Al-Diriyah derby

Kingsley Coman returned from injury as Al Nassr secured a 2-1 friendly win against Al Anwar on Saturday, six days before their Saudi Roshn League meeting with Al-Diriyah.

The French winger started the match, while Saudi Arabia international Abdulrahman Ghareeb also made his return from injury after coming on as a substitute.

Al Nassr used the fixture to prepare for their Riyadh derby against Al-Diriyah, which will take place on 9 October at Al-Awwal Park in Riyadh. The match will be played in the eighth round of the Saudi Roshn League.

Sadio Mane opened the scoring for Al Nassr before young midfielder Saad Haqawi added a second goal. Al Anwar, who compete in the Saudi First Division League, pulled one back, but Al Nassr held on for a narrow victory.

The result was less significant than the return of Coman and Ghareeb, who had both been sidelined by recent injuries. Coman’s inclusion in the starting line-up provided the main positive for Al Nassr ahead of their league fixture, while Ghareeb was eased back into action from the bench.

Al Nassr currently sit third in the Saudi Roshn League with 16 points from seven matches. Their record consists of five victories, one draw and one defeat.

They are two points behind leaders Al Hilal and one point adrift of second-placed Al Ittihad. The club will now turn their attention to the meeting with Al-Diriyah as they continue their pursuit of the teams above them in the table.
