Kaizer Chiefs storm back as winning run lifts title hopes

Momentum has sharply shifted at Naturena, and Kaizer Chiefs are suddenly back in the conversation. After a difficult winter spell, the Soweto giants have reignited their campaign with a third straight victory, defeating Orbit College FC 3-1 in the Betway Premiership.

The result not only extends their winning streak but also pushes them back into the top tier of the standings, with 39 points from 21 matches—reviving belief among fans and within the squad.

Comeback Defines New-Look Chiefs

It wasn’t straightforward. Chiefs struggled in the opening half and went behind, leaving supporters frustrated at what looked like another setback. But the response after the break told a different story.

The Glamour Boys showed resilience, intensity, and attacking intent—qualities that had been missing during their recent dip. Three goals in the second half completed a dramatic turnaround and underlined a growing sense of belief within the squad.

Ben Youssef: “We Showed Strong Mentality”

Co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef acknowledged the team’s struggles but praised their reaction.

“I’m satisfied with the result, but it was a difficult match; we suffered a lot in the first half,” he admitted.
“We reacted well because we started playing our football, and in the final third, we showed more fighting spirit. Coming back from 1-0 to win 3-1 shows strong mentality.”

His words reflect a team rediscovering its identity at a crucial stage of the season.

No Room for Complacency

Despite the upturn in results, the Chiefs’ technical bench is deliberately keeping expectations grounded. The recent run of three defeats is still fresh, and the focus is on maintaining stability rather than chasing headlines.

Ben Youssef emphasized a “one game at a time” philosophy, particularly to protect a squad that includes several young and developing players.

“We don’t want to put too much pressure on them… we have to support and protect them.”

The message is clear: performance comes before points, and development remains a priority.

Next Test at FNB Stadium

Attention now turns to their upcoming clash against TS Galaxy at the iconic FNB Stadium.

With confidence returning and momentum building, Chiefs have a chance to extend their run and solidify their position among the league’s frontrunners.

For now, the revival is real but sustaining it will be the true test.
