Kaizer Chiefs are preparing to unveil a reshaped starting line-up built around new Tanzanian midfielder Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko as the club launches a fresh era under head coach Fernando Da Cruz.
The Soweto giants have completed three signings ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, with Bitegeko joining from Azam FC to bolster a midfield that will be central to their plans to revive fortunes in the Betway Premiership.
The 27-year-old arrives for an undisclosed fee and becomes Amakhosi’s third major addition of the transfer window, following the captures of goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner and defender Thabo Moloisane.
Chiefs have just returned from a two-week pre-season camp in Spain, where Da Cruz used the trip to evaluate his squad and begin shaping what is expected to be a new-look starting XI.
Supporters are now set for an early look at that remodelled side in the Toyota Cup this weekend, when Kaizer Chiefs face Zimbabwean club Scotland FC – with Bitegeko and Moloisane among those tipped to feature.
Goalkeeper battle as Leaner arrives
Brandon Petersen is set to retain his status as Kaizer Chiefs’ first-choice goalkeeper after an impressive individual season, despite the team’s broader struggles.
The 29-year-old has emerged as one of the club’s most reliable performers and is widely expected to start the new campaign as the preferred No. 1.
However, the arrival of Renaldo Leaner is designed to sharpen competition in a department where depth has sometimes been a concern.
Leaner, who has been signed to challenge Petersen directly, will aim to push his rival throughout the season and stake his claim for the starting role if opportunities arise.
Moloisane to anchor reshaped defence

The revamped defensive unit is intended to provide greater stability after a period in which Amakhosi have struggled for continuity in their back four.
Bitegeko to anchor midfield balance
In midfield, Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko is expected to walk straight into the starting XI as a defensive midfielder.
His ability to break up play and dictate tempo from deep is seen as a key ingredient in Da Cruz’s tactical plans, especially alongside the experienced Lebohang Maboe.
The pairing is expected to give Kaizer Chiefs more control in central areas, with Maboe’s composure on the ball complementing Bitegeko’s ball-winning and positional discipline.
With that base in place, Mduduzi Shabalala is set to operate in a more advanced role, freed from some defensive duties and encouraged to influence the game in the final third with his creativity and attacking instincts.
Front line still under construction
Further forward, Chiefs are yet to secure the proven centre-forward they are seeking before the transfer window closes.
For now, the attacking trio is likely to feature Wandile Duba and Asanele Velebayi operating from the flanks, tasked with stretching defences and supplying chances from wide areas.
Through the middle, Flavio Silva is expected to lead the line as a lone striker, though the club is still exploring options to reinforce that position before the new Betway Premiership season kicks off.
