Kaizer Chiefs will begin their CAF Confederation Cup campaign with a trip to Zambia to face Red Arrows in the second round preliminary qualifiers on Saturday 17 October.
The match will be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, with kick-off scheduled for 15:00. The tie is the first of two meetings between the clubs, with Kaizer Chiefs hosting the return leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday 23 October 2026.
Progress over the two legs would secure a place in the competition’s group stages, which form the final 16. The group phase consists of four groups of four teams, with the top two sides in each section advancing to the quarter-finals.
Fernando Da Cruz’ side entered the competition at this stage because of Kaizer Chiefs’ CAF ranking and did not have to participate in the first preliminary round.
Red Arrows reached the second round after overcoming Madagascar’s FC Rouge. The Zambian club won both legs 2-0, completing a 4-0 aggregate victory and setting up the meeting with Kaizer Chiefs.
The continental fixtures come during a demanding period for Kaizer Chiefs, who first face Stellenbosch FC in the Betway Premiership at FNB Stadium on Tuesday 13 October. That match is scheduled to begin at 19:30, before the trip to Zambia four days later.
Kaizer Chiefs are fourth in the league with 13 points and remain among the few unbeaten teams after recording three wins and four draws in their opening seven matches.
Their attacking play has produced 12 goals so far, although the number of draws has limited their progress up the standings.
Stellenbosch FC occupy seventh place with nine points. Their record includes two wins, three draws and two defeats from seven matches.
The Maroons have scored eight goals, but their defensive strength has been a key feature of their campaign. They have conceded only seven goals throughout the season.
Kaizer Chiefs’ previous continental campaign
Kaizer Chiefs were eliminated in the group stages last season after finishing third in Group D behind Zamalek and AlMasry.
They recorded several notable results in the competition, including a historic 2-1 win against Egyptian giants Zamalek at FNB Stadium.
However, their run ended on the final matchday in Egypt. Kaizer Chiefs needed only a draw to reach the quarter-finals but lost 2-1 to Zamalek, missing out on qualification by the narrowest of margins.
Their new CAF Confederation Cup campaign will start in Ndola next weekend, with the return fixture against Red Arrows following at Moses Mabhida Stadium.
