Juventus are prioritising additions in midfield and at left-back for the January transfer window, with Olympique Marseille’s Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rayan Ait-Nouri among their main targets, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Italian club are also assessing their options in attack for next summer, when they are expected to seek a replacement for Vlahovic. Manchester United’s Benjamin Sesko and Monaco’s Folarin Balogun are being monitored, while Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is among a number of players Juventus are considering on free transfers.
Juventus could make several signings in January, although the impact of the new capital increase announced by John Elkann is expected to be felt more significantly during next summer’s negotiations. Their immediate priority is to strengthen the squad while pursuing a return to the Champions League.
Carnevali intends to continue building the team around Spalletti’s requirements, but further recruitment will depend on player sales and compliance with strict Financial Fair Play rules.
Juventus made several important additions during the summer. Goalkeeper Neto joined as a replacement for Grabara, who underwent surgery, while Yildiz, Khephren Thuram and Locatelli have also required operations because of injuries.
Højbjerg emerges as midfield option
The club want to bring in a midfielder who can help cover for captain Locatelli’s absence. Højbjerg, 31, has moved back into their plans after previously being considered by Juventus.
The Denmark international offers leadership and international experience, and Olympique Marseille no longer regard him as untransferable. Juventus believe they have sufficient appeal to persuade the midfielder to move, although Fiorentina are also following him. Their pursuit could become more straightforward if Koopmeiners leaves.
Sassuolo’s 18-year-old Bakayoko is another option. The player, who previously featured for Olympique Marseille, is viewed favourably by Carnevali.
Juventus will also try to re-sign Ait-Nouri on loan in January if Cabal departs. The Algeria international has gradually lost favour under Maresca. The club are separately tracking young goalkeepers and intend to pursue Frosinone’s Italy Under-21 goalkeeper Palmisani in the near future.
Striker search and free-agent plans
Juventus are expected to return to the striker market in the summer. Vlahovic is unlikely to remain, having joined on loan, while Newcastle United are set to pay more than 70 million euros for him during the 2025-26 season.
Sesko and Balogun have both made slow starts to the campaign, but Juventus will continue to follow them. Sunderland forward Brobbey is also on the shortlist after scoring 3 goals in 5 Premier League appearances.
Juventus sent representatives to Amsterdam last week to watch Brobbey. During that visit, they also asked about the physical condition of 35-year-old Van Dijk, whose Liverpool contract expires in June.
Other free agents being considered include Manchester City’s Kovacic, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Leipzig’s Raum and AC Milan’s Tomori.
