Juventus are considering a late loan offer for Tottenham midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, after the Senegal international told manager Roberto De Zerbi he wants to leave the club before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
Sarr was absent as Spurs suffered a 2-0 home defeat by Newcastle United in the Premier League at the weekend. De Zerbi said the 23-year-old’s absence was partly because of a hamstring problem, although he is close to returning to training.
The midfielder is one of three Tottenham players whose futures have become uncertain in the closing stages of the transfer window. Richarlison and Kevin Danso have also told De Zerbi they want to leave.
Speaking after the defeat by Newcastle, the Tottenham manager said he had discussed the situation with all three players.
“Richarlison, I don’t know. He said too many times he wants to leave.
“Danso came to me two days ago and said he wants to leave. Pape Sarr the same, but he suffered a small injury, and is almost ready to train.
“I love these players, and they are great guys. I have very good relationships. But if they want to leave, they have to bring an economic solution to the club, and they can go and we find other players.”
Juventus are reportedly preparing a last-minute approach for Sarr, having already completed a similar loan arrangement for Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario earlier this month.
Tottenham are understood to be willing to consider Sarr’s departure, but negotiations are being complicated by their demand for a £25m purchase clause to be included in any agreement.
Juventus are not currently prepared to accept that clause without conditions. Their position is that the option to buy should apply only if Sarr reaches certain targets during the 2026-27 season.
That leaves the two clubs needing to resolve the structure of the proposed deal before the deadline. Tottenham’s preference is for a clear £25m purchase clause, while Juventus would only be willing to consider it if performance-related conditions are met.
Sarr’s potential departure comes alongside the uncertainty surrounding Richarlison and Danso, both of whom also missed the Newcastle match. De Zerbi’s comments indicate that Tottenham will not prevent the players from leaving if suitable financial solutions can be found.
The manager also made clear that he values the three players and maintains good relationships with them, but said their stated desire to move on would need to be matched by arrangements that work for the club.
With the deadline approaching tomorrow, Juventus’ interest in Sarr is currently focused on a loan agreement. The main issue remains whether the terms of any future purchase can satisfy both sides.
