Cristiano Ronaldo’s decision to retire from international football prompted messages from Juventus, Goncalo Ramos and several of the Portugal forward’s former team-mates on Instagram.
The former Juventus player confirmed his retirement on Thursday in a heartfelt video posted on the social media platform. The announcement quickly attracted widespread attention, generating a large number of likes and comments.
Juventus responded beneath Ronaldo’s video with two emojis: a red heart and a face holding back tears.
Ramos, Ronaldo’s compatriot and a Milan striker, posted a message in Portuguese which read: “Thank you for everything.”
Ronaldo’s announcement also drew a response from his Milan team-mate Diego Moreira, who shared the video on his own Instagram account.
The Belgian international has previously spoken about Ronaldo’s importance to his career, describing him as his favourite player and biggest role model.
Italy international Nicolo Fagioli, now a Fiorentina midfielder, was another former Juventus team-mate to acknowledge Ronaldo’s statement. He replied with the word “legend”, accompanied by several emojis.
