Julian Alvarez remains unwilling to join Arsenal, despite continued efforts from the London club to convince the Atletico de Madrid striker to make the move.
The 26-year-old Argentina international is determined to join Barcelona instead, leaving Arsenal facing a major obstacle in their attempts to secure his signature. Representatives of the Premier League club have maintained regular contact with Alvarez in the hope of changing his mind, but the forward has repeatedly rejected their approach.
According to journalist Jose Alvarez, Atletico de Madrid are prepared to enter negotiations with Arsenal. However, the player’s position remains unchanged, with Alvarez continuing to refuse the possibility of moving to the English club.
That leaves Atletico de Madrid with a complicated decision. The Madrid club are unwilling, as a matter of principle, to sell their star player to a competitor. At the same time, they are ready to discuss a potential deal with Arsenal, whose representatives have continued to pursue the forward directly.
Alvarez’s preference for Barcelona is therefore central to the situation. While Atletico de Madrid will not sell him to a competitor, the club are willing to listen to Arsenal, but any agreement would still depend on the player accepting the transfer. So far, there is no indication that he is prepared to do so.
The striker has turned down Arsenal on repeated occasions, despite the London club’s continued interest. His stance means that, unless circumstances change unexpectedly, he will remain at Atletico de Madrid.
Alvarez’s current contract with the Madrid club runs until the middle of 2030, giving Atletico de Madrid a long-term agreement with the player. That leaves the club under no immediate pressure to sell, while the forward’s stated preference further complicates any possible move to Arsenal.
For now, the situation remains at a standstill. Atletico de Madrid are open to negotiations with Arsenal, but Alvarez has not been persuaded by their approach and continues to favour Barcelona. If nothing unexpected happens, the Argentina international will stay with the Madrid side beyond the present transfer discussions.
