Jorge Jesus said he had not yet read Cristiano Ronaldo’s statement attacking the Portugal manager, but confirmed he was aware it had been published.
Ronaldo, Portugal’s captain, issued an official statement on Tuesday addressing the dispute with his manager and explaining why he left the national team’s training camp.
The 40-year-old criticised Jesus, claiming the manager had broken a promise to him twice. Ronaldo said this had led to his decision to leave the camp.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Jesus had been in Leiria on Tuesday to watch Portugal Under-21s beat Czech Republic 2-0.
When Jesus returned to his home in Aroeira, he was approached by a CMTV team, who questioned him about Ronaldo’s statement.
Jesus said he had not yet had the opportunity to read what Portugal’s captain had written.
“I was in Leiria watching the national Under-21 team’s match,” he said. “I will read the statement now and I have nothing to say.”
Portuguese newspaper A Bola added that further statements about the dispute were expected soon, although it did not identify who would issue them.
