Atletico Madrid have completed the signing of Juventus forward Jonathan David on loan until 30 June 2027, giving manager Diego Simeone another option in attack and Julian Alvarez a new partner in the Spanish club’s forward line.
Juventus confirmed that an agreement had been reached with Atletico Madrid for the Canada international to move on a free loan. The deal also includes an option for Atletico Madrid to sign David permanently for 25m euros.
Should the Spanish club decide to activate that clause, the fee will be paid over four financial years. The structure of the agreement allows Atletico Madrid to add to Simeone’s attacking options without making a significant financial commitment at the start of the deal.
The move was completed during the final hours of the summer transfer window, bringing an end to David’s short spell at Juventus and formally closing Atletico Madrid’s pursuit of the forward.

David joined Juventus as a free agent last summer after his contract with French club Lille expired. However, his first season in Italian football did not produce the level expected, with the Canadian scoring eight goals in all competitions.
Atletico Madrid had identified David as their leading target to strengthen the forward line. The club’s decision to pursue a loan deal with a purchase option reflected its desire to improve Simeone’s attacking resources while avoiding a major immediate financial outlay.
The arrival of David also comes at a time of uncertainty surrounding Alvarez’s future. The Argentina international has attracted interest from Barcelona, although Atletico Madrid have now added another established forward to their squad.
Simeone had been seeking additional attacking choices, and David’s arrival provides him with a different option alongside Alvarez. The agreement gives Atletico Madrid time to assess the Canadian’s performances before deciding whether to make the transfer permanent.
For Juventus, the deal brings David’s first season in Turin to a close after he joined the club without a transfer fee. For Atletico Madrid, it represents a move designed to strengthen the attack while retaining flexibility over the player’s long-term future.
The permanent transfer clause is set at 25m euros, with the payment spread across four financial years if exercised. Until then, David will remain at Atletico Madrid on loan through 30 June 2027.
