Jessica Motaung leaves Kaizer Chiefs commercial role but remains on board

Jessica Motaung has stepped down as Kaizer Chiefs’ Marketing and Commercial Director after decades with the Soweto club, although she will continue to serve as a member of its board.

The development was reported on Thursday, with SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe confirming that Motaung had left her executive position.

“Jessica Motaung has confirmed to SABC Sport that she has stepped down from her role as Kaizer Chiefs Marketing Director but will stay on as a board member,” Molefe reported.

Motaung first joined Kaizer Chiefs in 1998 and became the club’s Marketing Manager in 2003. She was appointed Marketing and Commercial Director four years later, a position she had held ever since.

During her time in the role, Motaung was responsible for the club’s commercial affairs and became one of the most prominent figures within the organisation.

Her work in football has also extended beyond South Africa’s leading clubs. In 2022, she joined the CAF Organising Committee for Women’s Football.

The following year, she was elected Deputy Chairperson of the African Clubs Association.

Kaizer Chiefs have not yet issued an official statement confirming that Motaung has left her position, despite the report from SABC Sport.

Attention will now turn to who could succeed her as Marketing and Commercial Director. Her brothers, Bobby Motaung and Kaizer Jr, are both members of the Kaizer Chiefs board and hold specific roles at the club.

The club are due to face Siwelele this weekend in the quarter-finals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
