Manchester United winger Amad Diallo believes interim manager Michael Carrick has the qualities required to take the role on a permanent basis after overseeing a strong run of results since January.
Carrick was handed temporary charge of the club following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim earlier this year, with the former United and England midfielder asked to guide the team through the remainder of the season. Since taking over, Carrick has overseen a positive run of form, recording seven victories and only one defeat in his first 10 matches in charge.
That improvement has revived the club’s hopes of returning to the Champions League after a two-year absence. United currently need four wins and a draw from their final seven fixtures of the campaign to secure qualification for Europe’s elite club competition.
Despite the encouraging results under Carrick, Manchester United’s leadership has indicated that it will not rush into a decision over the managerial position. The club is expected to wait until the end of the season before determining whether Carrick should remain in the role permanently.
Manchester United resurgence
United have also not begun formal discussions with alternative candidates. The list of potential managers has narrowed in recent weeks, with Thomas Tuchel committing to the England job and Roberto de Zerbi choosing to take charge at Tottenham.
Speaking during the club’s four-day training camp in the Republic of Ireland, Diallo said he believes the interim boss already has the credentials required to continue leading the team.
“From a personal view he’s the right man,” said the Ivory Coast international.
“He has a lot of experience; he knows the club and has the DNA.
“His relationship with every player is very good. Sometimes this kind of manager can bring the club where they belong.
“It’s not the players who decide but my honest opinion is we’re really happy to have Michael Carrick as a manager.”
Amad stance
While players often express public backing for their managers, performances since Carrick’s appointment have suggested there may be genuine support within the squad.
United’s recent results have lifted confidence around the club and improved their position in the race for Champions League qualification. The atmosphere inside the dressing room is also said to be positive, with players pointing to Carrick’s understanding of the club as a key factor.
Striker Bryan Mbeumo also spoke about his experience working under the interim manager, highlighting Carrick’s familiarity with the environment at Old Trafford.
“We’ve got good experience with him,” said striker Bryan Mbeumo.
“He knows how to talk to us and we’re going to try to take as much as we can from him.
“It’s been easier because he knows the place. It’s been great to work under him.”
Manchester United now face a decisive final stretch of the season, with their Champions League ambitions still within reach as the club weighs up its long-term managerial future.
