Fatawu Issahaku has been named the winner of the EFL Championship Goal of the Month award for February, following a standout strike that underlined his growing influence in English football against Birmingham.
The 20-year-old winger, who plays for Leicester City, produced a moment of individual brilliance that captured the attention of fans and pundits alike.
His goal came during Leicester City’s defeat to Birmingham on February 7, scoring the only goal for the Foxes of a volley in the box in a 2-1 defeat.
The goal stood out among a competitive shortlist, with supporters voting in large numbers to crown Issahaku’s effort as the best of the month.
It is the latest recognition in what has been an impressive campaign for the Ghana international.
‘’Winning this award gives me confidence and makes me want to do more for the team. It is hard to get too happy about it, though, as I want us to be in a better position than we are.
“I always try to score and give assists, so it is nice when your hard work pays off. Everything we do on the pitch is to win, so we need to do better and keep working hard between now and the end of the season to make sure we stay in this league,” he said after claiming the prize.
Leicester are 23rd in the Championship with 38 pointd after 38 games and face the possibility of being relegated from the league.
