Egypt international Islam Issa has dismissed widespread reports regarding the nature of his recent injury, stating that the information circulating in the media is inaccurate and that further medical evaluation is required.
The winger sustained the injury during Egypt’s goalless draw against Spain in a friendly match played at the home ground of RCD Espanyol. The fixture formed part of Egypt’s preparations during the March international break.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Issa said: “All the news that was published regarding my injury is incorrect, and I will undergo scans after returning to Egypt.”
Uncertainty Surrounds Initial Diagnosis
Earlier, the Egyptian Football Association had released a statement suggesting that the player had suffered a knee sprain. However, Issa’s comments indicate that a definitive diagnosis has yet to be confirmed, with medical scans expected to provide clarity once the team returns to Cairo.
The uncertainty leaves both the player and coaching staff awaiting further updates, particularly as Egypt continues its preparations for upcoming international competitions.
Key Role in March Friendlies
Issa featured prominently in Egypt’s recent friendlies, starting both matches against Saudi Arabia and Spain. He played 58 minutes in the encounter against Saudi Arabia, where he opened the scoring in a comprehensive 4-0 victory.
In the subsequent match against Spain, he remained on the pitch for 68 minutes before being forced off due to the injury. The game ended in a 0-0 draw, with Egypt delivering a disciplined performance against strong opposition.
The match also saw Egypt reduced to ten men in the closing stages after Hamdi Fathi was sent off in the 84th minute.
Egypt Conclude International Camp
The national team’s delegation is scheduled to depart Spain late on Wednesday night, with arrival in Cairo expected early Thursday morning. The return will allow medical staff to carry out further examinations on Issa’s condition.
Egypt’s performances during the international break included a convincing win over Saudi Arabia and a resilient draw against Spain, offering encouragement ahead of future challenges.
World Cup Preparations Continue
Looking ahead, Egypt is preparing for participation in the upcoming World Cup, where they have been drawn in a competitive Group G alongside Iran, Belgium, and New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Spain will compete in Group H with Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia, and Uruguay.
Spain entered the Egypt match following a 3-0 victory over Serbia, while Egypt had already secured a commanding result against Saudi Arabia earlier in the break.
Awaiting Clarity on Issa’s Condition
For now, attention remains focused on Issa’s fitness, with the player’s availability for future fixtures dependent on the outcome of upcoming medical tests. His importance to the squad, highlighted by his recent performances, makes his recovery a priority for the Egyptian coaching staff.
As speculation continues, Issa’s own statement has sought to calm concerns, reinforcing that a final assessment will only be made once proper examinations are completed.
