Inter began their 2026-27 Serie A campaign with a convincing 4-1 victory over Monza, scoring three times after half-time to turn an entertaining opening game into a comprehensive win.
The Milan club took control early at home and went ahead after only six minutes. Andy Diouf supplied the pass, allowing Hakan Calhanoglu to finish the move and give Inter the lead.
Monza responded during the first half and levelled in the 29th minute. Gustavo Varela found the net to bring the visitors back into the contest and ensure the teams went into the interval on equal terms.
Inter returned from the 15-minute break with greater intensity and quickly re-established their advantage. One of their first attacks of the second half ended with Piotr Zielinski scoring to put the hosts back in front.
The home side did not allow Monza time to recover. Inter added another goal soon afterwards, with Francesco Esposito extending their lead and strengthening their position in the match.
Cristian Chivu’s side continued to press for a decisive fourth goal as the game moved towards its conclusion. Yann Bisseck eventually completed the scoring, confirming a 4-1 victory for Inter in the opening round of Italy’s top-flight season.
The result gives Inter an emphatic start to the 2026-27 Serie A campaign, while Monza were unable to maintain the momentum created by Varela’s first-half equaliser.
Inter’s performance followed a clear pattern: an early breakthrough, a temporary setback and a dominant response after the interval. Calhanoglu’s sixth-minute goal put the hosts ahead, but Varela’s reply made the match level again before half-time.
The second-half goals from Zielinski and Esposito restored Inter’s control, and Bisseck’s late contribution ensured the margin of victory reflected the hosts’ improved attacking display after the break.
Under Chivu, Inter ultimately secured all the available points in their first league fixture of the season. Monza, by contrast, left the opening match with a three-goal defeat despite having recovered from the hosts’ early advantage.
