Inter Milan are preparing a formal €30m bid for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and are not currently pursuing an alternative target in central midfield, according to reports in Italy.
The Nerazzurri have been interested in Jones for several months and previously explored the possibility of signing the Liverpool academy graduate during the January transfer window. They now appear ready to make a decisive attempt to complete a deal before the summer window closes.
Jones, 25, is entering the final year of his contract at Liverpool. He is not expected to be a regular first-team player under Andoni Iraola during the 2026-27 season and has made few appearances for the Merseyside club during pre-season.
La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Jones is keen on a move to Inter and has told Liverpool that he wants to leave. The midfielder has also recently begun following several current Inter players on social media, including centre-back Alessandro Bastoni.
Liverpool have not yet given permission for Jones to depart, however, and no agreement has been reached between the clubs.
Inter are understood to be preparing an offer worth €30m for the England international. If he remains at Anfield beyond the summer, Jones will be able to negotiate with any club from January because of his contract situation. He could then leave Liverpool on a free transfer next summer if he does not agree a new deal.
The Italian report says Inter are willing to wait until the final stages of the summer transfer window if necessary in order to reach an agreement with Liverpool. It points to the example of Manchester City and Manuel Akanji last summer, when a deal was completed late in the window.
Should Inter fail to sign Jones before the deadline, the club is expected to maintain negotiations ahead of the next winter transfer period. By then, the midfielder would have only a few months remaining on his Liverpool contract unless an extension is agreed.
Inter are not currently preparing a separate option for their midfield, La Gazzetta dello Sport adds. Jones is regarded as the specific player wanted by head coach Cristian Chivu, rather than one name on a wider list of possible recruits.
Jones came through Liverpool’s academy and has established himself as a first-team midfielder, but his future is now uncertain as he approaches the final season of his current agreement. Inter’s planned €30m proposal could determine whether the player moves to Serie A this summer or remains at Liverpool until at least the next transfer window.
