Injury concerns force Hearts of Oak to part ways with striker Prince Owusu

Accra Hearts of Oak have terminated the contract of striker Prince Kwabena Owusu following medical advice, ending the forward’s short stint with the club.

The decision brings an early conclusion to Owusu’s time with the Accra-based side after ongoing fitness concerns limited his ability to feature regularly since his arrival during the 2025/26 season.

Owusu, 28, joined the Ghanaian giants from Bibiani GoldStars but struggled to secure a consistent place in the team. Persistent medical issues meant the striker spent much of his spell sidelined and unable to build momentum in the squad.

During his time with Hearts of Oak, Owusu made only a handful of appearances. Across all competitions, he accumulated just 204 minutes on the pitch and did not score a goal for the club.

His last significant involvement came in October 2025. Since then, the striker has largely been absent from matchday squads as he continued to deal with fitness problems.

Owusu’s only appearance in 2026 occurred in a fixture against Medeama SC. That match ultimately proved to be his final outing for Hearts of Oak in the club’s traditional red, yellow and blue colours.

Following a series of medical assessments and consultations, the club opted to end the player’s contract. The decision, according to the club, was taken with the interests of both the team and the player’s health in mind.

The move brings to a close a brief chapter for Owusu at one of Ghana’s most decorated football clubs. Despite arriving with expectations of strengthening the team’s attacking options, the striker’s recurring fitness issues prevented him from making a lasting impact on the pitch.

For Hearts of Oak, the development forms part of a broader effort to reshape their squad as the season continues. The club have been assessing their options and making adjustments in order to strengthen the team for the remainder of the campaign.

Owusu’s departure also highlights the challenges faced by players attempting to regain full fitness while competing at the highest level of domestic football. Although his time at Hearts was short-lived, the striker had hoped to revive his career at the club after completing his move from Bibiani GoldStars earlier in the season.

With the contract now terminated, the forward’s future remains uncertain as he focuses on his health and next steps in the game.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak will continue their efforts to reinforce their squad as they pursue their objectives for the rest of the 2025/26 campaign.
