Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho described Celtic’s achievement of winning two trophies within the space of a week as “crazy” after helping the club secure victory in the Scottish Cup final.
The forward scored as Celtic defeated Dunfermline Athletic 3-1 to lift the trophy, capping off what he called a memorable campaign for both himself and the team.
Speaking after the final, Iheanacho reflected on the success enjoyed by the Scottish side and praised the effort made by players and staff throughout the season.
“We won two trophies in the space of a week, it’s crazy. I am really happy. I believe, I have my faith and it was a crazy season.
The effort everyone put in, God knows we really deserved it. Maybe some people deserved it more than us, but we are lucky enough to have it and we will cherish it for the rest of our lives.”
The victory added another major honour to Celtic’s season and underlined the club’s dominance in domestic competition. Iheanacho’s contribution in the final also continued his impressive form during his debut campaign with the club.
The Nigerian forward finished the season with nine goals and one assist across all competitions, establishing himself as an important figure within the squad during his first year in Scotland.
His performances have drawn attention as Celtic completed another successful campaign, with the striker playing a significant role in key moments throughout the season.
The Scottish Cup triumph marked the latest achievement for the club after securing another trophy earlier in the week, a feat Iheanacho admitted had left the squad overwhelmed by the scale of their success.
The former Nigeria international said the season had been demanding but rewarding, highlighting the collective spirit within the dressing room as one of the driving forces behind the club’s achievements.
Celtic’s ability to secure silverware in quick succession has strengthened belief within the squad and among supporters, with Iheanacho insisting the players’ hard work had been rewarded.
Despite the celebrations, attention is now expected to turn towards the striker’s future at the club. Iheanacho is scheduled to hold discussions with Celtic’s management once the season concludes in order to assess his contract situation.
Those talks are likely to determine whether the forward remains part of Celtic’s long-term plans following an encouraging first campaign in Scottish football.
For now, however, Iheanacho appears focused on enjoying the success achieved by the club after a season he repeatedly described as extraordinary.
His contribution in the Scottish Cup final ensured he ended the campaign on a high note, while Celtic’s latest trophy victory further reinforced the club’s reputation for sustained domestic success.
