Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored twice as Bursaspor came from behind to beat Batman Petrolspor 2-1 on Saturday, extending his remarkable scoring run to eight consecutive league matches.
The 29-year-old’s latest brace took his total to 11 goals in eight 1. Lig appearances and kept him at the top of the division’s scoring charts.
Iheanacho also matched a Bursaspor record previously set by Brazilian striker Fernandao during the 2014-15 season, when he scored in eight successive Süper Lig rounds.
Bursaspor were behind in Saturday’s match after Doria opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Iheanacho restored parity from the penalty spot in the 60th minute before completing the turnaround with his second goal in the 85th minute.
The victory maintained Bursaspor’s position at the top of the league after eight rounds. They have now recorded six wins and one draw, giving them 19 points.
For Iheanacho, the latest performance continued an extraordinary start to his time with the club after joining from Celtic during the summer.
He has scored in every league appearance since the beginning of the campaign and now has 11 goals and two assists from eight matches.
His most recent three games have produced goals against Manisa FK, Esenler Erokspor and Batman Petrolspor, extending a run that has placed him among the standout performers in Turkey’s second division.
The Nigerian’s current sequence now stands alongside Fernandao’s record at Bursaspor.
Fernandao achieved his eight-match scoring run during the 2014-15 Süper Lig campaign. His sequence began against Kasımpaşa and continued through the fixture against Gençlerbirliği, covering the 12th to 19th rounds.
UEFA highlighted the Brazilian’s achievement after he scored in his eighth consecutive match. He eventually finished that season with 22 league goals.
More than a decade later, Iheanacho has matched that eight-game sequence, although his achievement has come in the 1. Lig rather than Turkey’s top division.
His opportunity to establish a new club record could arrive in Bursaspor’s next league match. Another goal would take his scoring streak to nine consecutive games and move him beyond Fernandao’s eight-match run.
Iheanacho joined Bursaspor on 18 July 2026 after his spell at Celtic. According to data from the Turkish Football Federation, he signed a contract that runs until 30 June 2029.
Since arriving, the Nigerian has quickly become the leading scorer in the 1. Lig. His two goals against Batman Petrolspor took him to 11 for the season and allowed him to retain first place in the scoring standings.
The result against Batman Petrolspor was also significant for Bursaspor’s position in the league. Despite conceding first, they recovered to claim their sixth victory of the campaign and remain top after eight rounds.
Iheanacho’s goals were central to that comeback. His equaliser from the penalty spot in the 60th minute brought Bursaspor level before his 85th-minute strike completed the turnaround.
The Nigerian now has the chance to make further history in his next league appearance.
If he scores again, Iheanacho will have found the net in nine consecutive matches and will establish a new Bursaspor scoring sequence beyond the mark Fernandao set in the 2014-15 season.
For now, his record stands at 11 goals in eight league games, with two assists and a goal in every match he has played.
His latest brace has therefore extended both his personal scoring run and Bursaspor’s strong start to the campaign, while leaving the Nigerian striker one match away from setting a new club record.
