André Onana has broken his silence on his prolonged absence from the Cameroon national football team, denying any conflict with the federation while suggesting deeper personal issues are behind his situation.
The goalkeeper, who last featured for Cameroon during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, has been notably absent from recent squads, sparking speculation over a possible fallout with FECAFOOT.
However, Onana has firmly rejected claims of an institutional dispute.
“I have no issues with the national team, I have no issue with FECAFOOT,” he stated, before hinting at tensions with an unnamed individual.
“I disagree with an individual who is using FECAFOOT and the national team to settle scores. If you disagree, they’ll get rid of you.”
While he stopped short of naming anyone, the comments suggest that personal grievances may be influencing decisions within the national setup, ultimately impacting his international career.
The former Inter Milan and Manchester United goalkeeper went further, claiming he had effectively been pushed out of international football against his will.
“I’ve taken a lot of knocks for the love of our country. I was forced into retirement,” Onana revealed, describing the situation as both painful and frustrating.
Despite his absence, the 2023 AFCON finalist insists his connection to the national team remains strong.
“I’m their number one fan… I send them messages after matches to congratulate them,” he added, highlighting his continued support for his teammates.
His remarks are likely to reignite debate within Cameroonian football, particularly around issues of governance, selection policies, and the relationship between players and administrators.
For now, Onana remains on the outside looking in but his message is clear: his commitment to Cameroon has not faded, even if his place in the squad has.
