‘I don’t want to set limits’: Ghezimes outlines ambitions after ending transfer dispute

Algeria international Fares Ghezimes says he has moved on from his failed summer move to Monaco and is determined to make the most of his continued stay at Frosinone after signing a new contract with the Italian club.

The 24-year-old winger endured a difficult transfer window after Frosinone rejected the French club’s approach, with the disagreement becoming so serious that he boycotted training sessions in an attempt to force a move.

However, Ghezimes has since reached an agreement to extend his contract until the summer of 2030, with improved financial terms, and insists he is now focused on helping the club achieve its ambitions.

His situation mirrors that of fellow Algeria international Anis Hadj Moussa, who also remained at his club after missing out on a move during the summer transfer window.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday ahead of Frosinone’s Serie A meeting with Sassuolo on Friday, the winger reflected on the dispute with the club’s management and explained why he has decided to move forward.

“What happened in the transfer market this summer is now in the past. I had my ambitions, but I spoke directly with the club officials and they presented me with their new plan to make the club more important.”

He added: “I am very happy to stay and sign a new contract, and now I want to give my best for the whole city.”

The Algeria international also expressed gratitude to those who supported him during the difficult period, particularly the club’s supporters and senior officials.

“I want to thank the fans for the love they shower me with every day, and the president, and the manager Castagnini, and my teammates who supported me during the transfer period.”

Ghezimes praises Alvini’s influence

Ghezimes reserved particular praise for Frosinone coach Massimiliano Alvini, whom he credited with helping him handle the situation and continue developing as a player.

“I especially thank Coach Alvini, as he played a major role in guiding me, and he always emphasized the difference between a person and a player,” he said.

“He is a great coach who wants the best for all his players and helps them develop. He is the winning spirit, and he spreads love in the team, and I really appreciate that. He believed in me since the summer and works every day to help me improve.”

The winger’s comments reflect his growing appreciation of the environment at Frosinone, where he believes the coach’s approach has helped him mature both on and off the pitch.

Ghezimes joined the Italian club three years ago after playing in France’s third division. Since then, he says, his understanding of the game and his ability to compete at a higher level have improved considerably.

“Three years ago, I joined the team at a young age, coming from the French third division, but now I feel much more mature.”

He also highlighted the demands of Italian football, explaining that the speed of the game requires greater concentration and better decision-making.

“In the Italian Serie A, there is a huge difference in level and pace. You always have to make the right decisions because the chances of making mistakes are much lower. Honestly, I like this style of football much more.”

Algeria winger refuses to limit his ambitions

With his immediate future settled, Ghezimes is now concentrating on improving his performances and making a significant contribution to Frosinone’s campaign.

The winger was reluctant to place a numerical target on his goal-scoring ambitions for the season, insisting that he would rather focus on performing to the best of his ability.

Asked whether he would agree to finish the campaign with 10 goals, he replied: “Will I sign a contract to finish the season with ten goals? No. Ten goals is a great achievement, but I don’t want to set limits for myself: I want to do my best.”

His response suggests that he intends to approach the season without placing unnecessary restrictions on what he can achieve.

After a summer dominated by uncertainty over his future, Ghezimes now appears ready to concentrate on football. His new contract has provided a fresh starting point, while his praise for Alvini indicates that he remains confident in the club’s plans.

The next challenge will be to translate that renewed commitment into performances on the pitch, beginning with Friday’s meeting against Sassuolo.
