Hojlund dedicates Denmark goal to ‘idol’ Ronaldo after Nations League clash

Rasmus Hojlund honoured Cristiano Ronaldo by performing the Portugal forward’s trademark ‘siuuu’ celebration after scoring for Denmark in their Nations League match on Thursday.

Hojlund’s goal was not enough to prevent Portugal from winning 4-2, although Ronaldo was absent from their squad.

The 41-year-old had sensationally left Portugal’s camp earlier in the week. His departure was reportedly linked to a disagreement with coach Jorge Jesus over his playing time.

Ronaldo’s international future remains unclear, but Hojlund used the occasion to pay tribute to the player he regards as his idol.

“I just wanted to dedicate my goal to my idol,” Hojlund said.

“For everything Cristiano is going through at this point in his career, he will never be forgotten.”

The former Manchester United striker copied Ronaldo’s famous celebration after finding the net, explaining that he wanted to show his admiration for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Ronaldo remains the highest-scoring player in the history of international football, with 146 goals for Portugal. He has scored 979 goals during his career.
