Herve Koffi joins Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise on loan from RC Lens

Herve Koffi has joined Belgian champions Union Saint-Gilloise on loan from RC Lens for the 2026-27 season, following a successful spell with French club SCO Angers.

The 29-year-old Burkina Faso international has signed temporarily with Union Saint-Gilloise after impressing during his time at Angers, where his consistency and decisive saves made him a prominent figure. The Belgian club confirmed the move on its official website as it looks to strengthen its defensive options before the start of the new campaign.

Koffi remains under contract with RC Lens until 30 June 2028, but will spend the forthcoming season back in Belgium, a country where he has previously established himself as one of the league’s leading goalkeepers.

Before moving to France, Koffi developed a strong reputation in the Jupiler Pro League during spells with Mouscron and Charleroi. His performances for both clubs helped him become one of the competition’s most highly regarded goalkeepers, and the move to Union Saint-Gilloise represents a return to a familiar footballing environment.

Union Saint-Gilloise are competing on several fronts this season and believe Koffi’s experience can provide greater security at the back. His leadership and calm presence are also expected to strengthen the squad away from the pitch, with the club viewing him as an important addition ahead of the new season.

The goalkeeper is valued at €6m by Transfermarkt, underlining the standing he has built during his career. His return to Belgium gives him an opportunity to reaffirm his position among the leading African goalkeepers playing in Europe.

Koffi’s arrival also provides Union Saint-Gilloise with an experienced last line of defence as the club prepares for the demands of a season involving multiple competitions. Having already demonstrated his ability in the Jupiler Pro League, he will not need an extended adaptation period to the country or its football.

For the goalkeeper, the loan offers a fresh challenge after his productive period at SCO Angers. The Burkina Faso international’s performances in France have helped maintain his profile, while the move back to Belgium gives him the chance to continue competing at a high level and to confirm his status among the continent’s best goalkeepers based in Europe.

Union Saint-Gilloise’s announcement makes the temporary transfer official, with Koffi now set to represent the club during the 2026-27 campaign. His long-term future remains tied to RC Lens, where his contract runs until June 2028.
