Hearts of Lions and Hearts of Oak play out stalemate in Kpando in Ghana Premier League

A tightly contested Ghana Premier League encounter between Hearts of Lions and Hearts of Oak ended in a goalless draw at the Kpando Sports Stadium, with both sides unable to find a breakthrough despite periods of dominance.

The result leaves the home side frustrated as they sought to respond to their recent MTN FA Cup elimination, while the visitors extended an impressive defensive run that has defined their season.

Hearts of Lions entered the match under pressure following their FA Cup exit to Dreams FC in Cape Coast. Keen to make amends in front of their supporters, they made several tactical adjustments under head coach Didi Dramani.

Among the notable changes was the repositioning of David Oppong Afranie into defence, where he joined Mohammed Ali, Baba Adamu and Emmanuel Amankwaah across the backline.

In midfield, Abdul Karim, Raphael Amponsah and Mohammed Hissein were tasked with controlling the game, while Hamza Issah, Mawuli Wayo and Stephen Appiah Aasre led the attack.

Despite these adjustments, the first half produced limited goal-scoring opportunities. The closest the home side came to breaking the deadlock was through Ismail Abambilla, whose effort stood out in an otherwise quiet opening period.

After the break, Hearts of Oak grew into the game and began to assert greater control. They dominated large spells of possession and created several chances, but were unable to convert any of them into goals.

Both teams made multiple substitutions in an attempt to inject fresh energy and find a winner. Mawuli Wayo, Mohammed Hussein, Appiah Asare, Hamza Issah and Emmanuel Amankwah were replaced by Yaw Baafi, Kwaku Boateng Henry, Ransford Mensah, Frank Duku and George Paaku, respectively fir Hearts of Oak.

However, neither side was able to capitalise on the changes, and the match concluded without goals.

For Hearts of Oak, the result continues a remarkable defensive record. The clean sheet marks their 20th in 25 matches, while goalkeeper Benjamin Asare secured his 12th shutout in just over 15 appearances for the club.
