Thomas Tuchel has congratulated Harry Kane after the England captain was named the 2026 Ballon d’Or winner, saying he has long since run out of words to describe the striker’s performances.
Kane, who plays for Bayern Munich, finished ahead of Spain’s Lamine Yamal and France’s Kylian Mbappe to claim football’s most prestigious individual honour.
The 33-year-old scored 73 goals for club and country during an exceptional season, earning recognition after another outstanding campaign at both domestic and international level.
Kane is the first English player to win the Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen in 2001, ending a 25-year wait for an England winner of the award.
His success came after a notable year as England captain. The Three Lions reached the semi-finals of the World Cup under Tuchel, where they were beaten by Argentina.
Although England missed out on a place in the final, they secured third position by defeating France in the play-off match. It was their best World Cup finish since winning the tournament in 1966.
Tuchel’s message to Kane was reported by The Independent.
“Congratulations, Harry, on a thoroughly deserved Ballon d’Or win,” said Tuchel. “I ran out of words to describe your performances a long time ago, but I am delighted to see the football world officially recognise you now.”
The England manager also highlighted the historical importance of Kane’s achievement.
“Becoming the first Englishman to win this great honour in 25 years makes it even more special, and we are fortunate to have you as our captain,” he added.
Tuchel finished his message by encouraging Kane to enjoy the occasion before turning his attention back to the qualities that have brought him the award.
“I know you will enjoy this moment with your loved ones, then return to doing what you do better than anything else: scoring goals and winning matches,” he said.
