Harry Kane scored twice for Bayern Munich against VfL Osnabruck in the first round of the DFB-Pokal to extend his run of scoring in the competition to seven consecutive matches.
The England captain’s goals in the tie mean he has now found the net in each of his past seven DFB-Pokal appearances. That sequence brings him level with the Bayern Munich club record for consecutive matches scored in the cup.
Kane is only the third Bayern Munich player to reach that mark. Before him, Gerd Muller achieved a seven-match scoring run between 1967 and 1968, while Thomas Muller matched the feat between 2013 and 2014.
The latest achievement came as Bayern Munich began their DFB-Pokal campaign against VfL Osnabruck. Kane’s two goals extended his personal scoring sequence in the competition and placed him alongside two of the club’s previous record holders.
Statistics confirm that Kane has scored in seven successive DFB-Pokal matches, equalling the record set by Gerd Muller and later matched by Thomas Muller. Gerd Muller’s run came between 1967 and 1968, and Thomas Muller’s was recorded between 2013 and 2014.
The record is based on consecutive DFB-Pokal matches in which a player scored. Kane’s goals against VfL Osnabruck therefore ensured that his current sequence reached the same length as those achieved by the two Muller players.
For Bayern Munich, the first-round tie provided the setting for Kane to join that select group. His brace not only contributed to the match against VfL Osnabruck but also preserved his scoring run in the German cup.
Kane’s seven-match sequence now stands alongside the two earlier Bayern Munich records. Gerd Muller first established the benchmark in the late 1960s, before Thomas Muller equalled it more than four decades later. Kane has now become the latest player to match the club’s seven-game mark.
