Hamburg have reached an agreement with Nice to sign Nigeria international Terem Moffi, with the Bundesliga club now expected to negotiate personal terms with the 27-year-old striker before the transfer can be completed.
The transfer fee has not been disclosed, according to French publication Nice-Matin. Hamburg have been tracking Moffi for several weeks as they look to strengthen their attacking options.
Moffi spent the second half of last season on loan at Portuguese champions FC Porto, but made only nine league appearances and scored once. FC Porto decided not to pursue a permanent transfer after Nice retained an €8m asking price for the forward.
The striker joined Nice permanently in 2023, having initially moved to the French club from Lorient on loan. His time at Nice has produced 24 goals in 72 appearances across all competitions.
However, Moffi endured a difficult campaign last season, which also included an incident involving Nice supporters. He now appears set to leave the Ligue 1 side, subject to agreement on personal terms and the completion of the transfer.
Hamburg’s interest reflects their desire to add greater attacking strength, while Moffi will be hoping a move to Germany can provide an opportunity to re-establish himself after a challenging spell in France and a short loan at FC Porto.
The 27-year-old’s proposed move would bring an end to his time with Nice after three years at the club. Despite scoring 24 times for the French side, he was unable to secure a permanent role at FC Porto following last season’s loan spell.
The final details of the deal remain to be settled, but the agreement between the two clubs represents a significant step towards Moffi’s move to Hamburg.
