Moroccan football legend Mustapha Hadji has urged Brahim Díaz to consider leaving Real Madrid for the Saudi Pro League, warning that his limited playing time could jeopardise his place in the Morocco national team.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Kooora, Hadji argued that the attacking midfielder needs regular football to strengthen his international prospects, despite playing for one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Díaz has featured for just over 210 minutes across six matches in all competitions this season, according to Real Madrid’s official statistics. The 26-year-old has, however, registered two assists in the Champions League.
Hadji recommends Saudi Arabia move
Hadji believes a transfer to Saudi Arabia could offer Díaz the consistent playing time he has struggled to secure in Madrid.
“He plays for the biggest club in the world, but honestly I advise him to leave for the Saudi league if there is an offer,” Hadji told Kooora.
The former Morocco international also defended the standard of competition in Saudi Arabia, saying the league features high-level professionals and remains fiercely competitive.
“I am a good follower of the Roshn League, and the competition there witnesses the participation of professionals at the highest level, and the competition is difficult,” he added.
Reports have linked Saudi club Al-Ittihad with a possible move for Díaz during the January transfer window. However, no agreement has been confirmed, leaving the forward’s future unresolved.
Playing time raises international concerns
Hadji also questioned whether Díaz should continue to receive international call-ups while struggling for minutes at club level.
“Diaz only plays for Real Madrid for a few minutes, so it will be difficult to call him up to the Moroccan national team, because he does not deserve to play internationally in light of this situation,” he said.
The comments put the focus on the balance Díaz must strike between remaining at a club of Real Madrid’s stature and securing the regular football needed to maintain his place in Morocco’s plans under coach Mohamed Ouahbi.
For now, a move remains speculative, but Hadji’s message is clear: Díaz needs more playing time, whether in Saudi Arabia or elsewhere, to strengthen his position at international level.
