Portuguese-Cape Verdean forward Gustavo Varela is reportedly attracting interest from Bundesliga club Leipzig, with the 21-year-old currently playing for Monza in Serie A.
Varela has made a strong start to the 2026-27 season, scoring nine goals and providing one assist in nine Serie A appearances. He has started 90% of Monza’s league matches and has played 760 minutes.
The centre-forward joined Monza from Benfica B on 27 July 2026 in a €2.5m transfer. He had spent the previous season on loan at Gil Vicente, returning to Benfica B before making the move to Italy.
Varela’s current market value is listed at €5m, reflecting the rapid rise in his status since joining Monza. He is contracted to the Italian club until 30 June 2030, meaning Leipzig would likely have to negotiate a fee rather than wait for his contract situation to develop.
The striker has also scored twice in one Italy Cup appearance this season, giving him 11 goals in all competitions. He plays as a right-footed centre-forward and was born in Lisbon on 30 January 2005.
There is no indication that a deal has been agreed, and Varela remains a Monza player while the reported interest from Leipzig develops.
