Gleison Bremer has rejected speculation that he wanted to leave Juventus, saying he remains determined to help the club return to the top of Italian football.
The Brazil defender said he had not asked Juventus to sell him and described the idea of leaving during a difficult period for both himself and the club as unthinkable. His comments, reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport via TuttoMercatoWeb, came after a summer in which uncertainty had surrounded his future.
Bremer also provided an update on his fitness, acknowledging that he is not yet at his best because he began his preparation later than some of his team-mates.
“I’m fine. Obviously I’m not at my best yet, since I started my preparation later,” he said. “But I feel I’ll be back in condition soon, and I feel the squad is right.”
The centre-back also sought to clarify earlier remarks in which he said Juventus could not be satisfied with competing only for fourth place. Bremer said those comments had been intended to underline his ambitions rather than suggest he was searching for a reason to depart.
“I like to clarify this point. I didn’t say those things because I was looking for an excuse to leave,” he explained.
Bremer said his ambitions extended beyond winning the Coppa Italia and that he wanted Juventus to reach the level expected of the club. He also pointed to the work being done to strengthen the squad, while backing Douglas Luiz to demonstrate his ability.
“If anything, I was trying to express my ambition: I’m not content to end my career with a Coppa Italia on the shelf. I want more, and I want Juventus to return to the level they belong at. As Spalletti has said, we’re still a little way off, but we’re laying important building blocks, Kolo Muani, Alajbegovic, and I’m betting on my friend Douglas Luiz, who has quality to spare and will show it.”
His comments offered a direct response to reports and speculation about his position at Juventus. Bremer insisted that leaving was not something he had considered, particularly while the club and the player were both experiencing a challenging period.
“I have not asked Juventus to sell me. Especially at a difficult moment, for the club and for me, it would never cross my mind, it would be like running away,” he said.
Bremer added that, if he eventually leaves Juventus, he wants to do so with pride and on his own terms.
“If one day I part from Juve, perhaps when I’m older, I’ll walk out the front door with my head held high.”
For now, his stated focus is on regaining full fitness, contributing to the squad and helping Juventus build towards a return to the level he believes the club should occupy.
